Each one of Indian citizen needs to file their income tax return provided one falls in the criteria decided by the government of India from time to time.
Details for the same can be found over here, with more details about the salaried employees.
But this article is not about Income Tax Return it is about a farce called paperless return or e-filing.
One can now file an e-return or online tax return, the motivating factor for the same is that you do not have to file a paper return as the process is totally online.
I decided to do some research on the same and file my return online.
Now the paper process is fairly simple, you fill the prescribed form for your return, do your calculations and deposit the form with your local income tax department under whose jurisdiction you fall. The income tax return form is a simple 2-4 page form.
But if you want to go for e-filing you have 2 options
1. Completely paperless that is using a digital signature
2. Without using a digital signature.
In both the cases either you can use some authorised websites like www.Taxsmile.com, or www.taxspanner.com, etc, by paying a fee or you can simply create a user ID password at the government of India’s income tax efiling portal. The government of India’s portal is free and the process of creating your user ID password is fairly simple provided you have a PAN number as it is used as the login ID.
The choice is yours. But this article is about the paperless part of the same and I wanted to understand how much paperless the whole process is. These details I will provide in the next article.
Thanks for reading.
thanks
